O harsh love, violet crowned with thorns,
prickly thicket between so many passions,
painful spear, corolla of rage,
what roads and means brought you to my soul?
Why did you suddenly direct your painful fire
in amongst the cold leaves on my path?
Who showed you the way to me?
What flower, what stone, what smoke marked my home?
All I know is the frightful night shuddered,
the dawn filled all glasses with its wine
and the sun found her place in the sky,
whilst cruel love besieged me pitilessly
until it cut and ripped into my heart
with burning swords and thorns.
