"¡Oh, si pudiéramos coger la luna, al anochecer, cuando es completamente redonda y se engancha en las ramas del cadabo!" No dije más que eso.

I only said, "When in the evening the round full moon gets entangled among the branches of that Kadam tree, couldn't somebody catch it?"

Pero Dadá, mi hermano mayor, se burló de mí: "No he conocido nadie tan tonto como tú. La luna está muy lejos, ¿cómo podríamos cogerla?" 

But dâdâ [elder brother] laughed at me and said, "Baby, you are the silliest child I have ever known. The moon is ever so far from us, how could anybody catch it?"

Yo dije: "¡El tonto eres tú, Dadá! Cuando, desde la ventana, Mamá mira cómo jugamos en el patio y nos sonríe, ¿te parece que está muy lejos?" 

I said, "Dâdâ how foolish you are! When mother looks out of her window and smiles down at us playing, would you call her far away?"

Pero Dadá replicó: "Pobre ignorante, ¿dónde encontraríamos una red bastante grande para coger la luna?" 

Still said, "You are a stupid child! But, baby, where could you find a net big enough to catch the moon with?"

Yo dije: "Podrías cogerla perfectamente con las manos".

I said, "Surely you could catch it with your hands."

Dadá se echó a reír y me dijo: "¡Nunca vi un niño tan simple! ¡Si la luna se acercara, ya me dirías tú sí es grande o no! 

But dâdâ laughed and said, "You are the silliest child I have known. If it came nearer, you would see how big the moon is."

Yo dije: "Dadá, ¡qué barbaridades te enseñan en la escuela! Cuando Mamá se inclina para besarnos, ¿te parece que su cara es muy grande?” 

I said, "Dâdâ, what nonsense they teach at your school! When mother bends her face down to kiss us does her face look very big?"

8.

Pero Dadá repite: “Eres un niño tonto”.

But still dâdâ says, "You are a stupid child."
