Once upon a time, there was a lady named Milena who cared for many little hens in a small house near the market. Every morning, the hens went out to the field to look for tiny bugs and grains to eat.
Among them was a big, strong rooster. Everyone called him the King of the Chickens, because he crowed very loudly and always wanted to go first.
One day, the King said:
— Let’s go look for food on the other side of the village.
But the little hens answered:
— Oh no… we’re scared to go that far!
The King got a little angry and went off on his own. But he soon discovered that travelling without friends wasn’t as fun as he thought. When he came back home, he was in a bad mood and wasn’t kind to the others.
The hens, feeling sad, went to sleep in the vegetable garden.
The next morning, Milena found them and asked:
— What are you doing here, my little ones?
The hens told her what had happened with the rooster.
— The King is very proud and he is not kind to us!, they added sadly.
Milena took them back to talk to him.
But the King kept saying:
— I am the King! I don’t need anyone!
Then, while he was crowing very loudly from a tree, an eagle heard him, swooped down, and carried him far away.
And from that day on, the hens learned that being kind is better than being the strongest.
Moral:
In a family or a group, everyone is valuable, and caring for each other makes us happy.
